Dona nobis pacem

If you have a heart, you are inspired and moved by the valiant struggle in Ukraine. When I watch the news coverage and feel helpless, I'm reminded of that famous Mr. Rogers quote: "When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'" And I am inspired to help the helpers.

Here are a couple ways you can help the helpers, and in the process help bring peace to the lives of the Ukrainians. You may find that pitching in will soothe your soul, too.

Doctors without Borders

UNICEF

Humane Society International

PS I did my homework, and these organizations have earned "Give with Confidence" from Charity Navigator.

  1. I've always loved that advice to "look for the helpers." Did you know my hometown is Mr. Roger's hometown? Also Arnie Palmer's. The two of them were contemporaries and also the same age as my dad and his friends, so while they weren't really friends (two different school districts) my dad and his friends knew both of them.

  2. So well done! I stole it. But I credited you. If that doesn't work, let me know. :)

  3. Oh my little cat ~ ah, yes ~ you can become a lion. Just do it, each one of us can speak out, do more. Love, give, support in our own way. Nothing is too small, too unimportant. Oh my little cat, let us all roar.

  4. That Mr. Rogers quote inspires me to be a voice of calm for my students. In times of chaos, supporting my students fills me with hope for the future. Even when I'm uncertain, I will do my best to comfort.

  5. Oh yes, "look for the helpers". There are so many of them helping Ukraine. This gives me hope. The best of human nature is facing off against the darkest.

  7. I've been reading praises about this peace post elsewhere on the web. The Rogers quote is perfect at a time when we're all feeling a bit faraway and helpless. Thank you for the well-vetted charity links!!

It's a sad time to blog4peace and quite beautiful....if that makes sense. Peace, Gal.

  9. Thanks for the Humane Society link. I had donated before, but not for animals, so I have now donated. Seems so little to do....

  11. This is a beautiful post.
And yes, we all need a lot of hope right now. How could this be happening yet again?
