I know it's not a sexy subject. Paperwork is boring. Talking about deductibles and co-pays isn't likely to set pulses racing. But yesterday, my insurance coverage left me elated.
I went to the ER last month and had a CT scan. I'm glad I went. Head injuries are nothing to trifle with. But I was worried about what it would cost me. I figured it would be about $500. I wasn't happy about it, but I realize that's a fraction of what the procedure cost.
Yesterday I learned that my portion was less than $300. I feel very fortunate that I have insurance that affords me the luxury of taking care of myself.
These are the thoughts and observations of me — a woman of a certain age. (Oh, my, God, I'm 60!) I'm single. I'm successful enough (independent, self supporting). I live in the burbs and work in the city (Chicago, the best city in the world). I'm an aunt, a friend and a colleague. I feel that voices like mine are rather underrepresented online or in print. So here I am. If my musings resonate with you, please visit my blog again sometime.
