Syndicated drama. Last week I shared the 13 most lucrative sitcoms in syndication. TV dramas are often rerun, too, but less often because they tend to be an hour long, which makes them less flexible to schedule. While old comedies like I Love Lucy are still often rerun, I don't see any vintage dramas on this list.
Platforms report views differently so it's impossible to determine what shows are most popular. Instead this list is the 13 titles that cost the most for channels and platforms to buy. Mark Harmon was rumored to make $500,000/episode during his last seasons on NCIS. Considering that it's still making a ton of money for CBS/Paramount, they got their money's worth.

How about you? Any favorites here? To be honest, I wouldn't curl up to watch any of these. I am second to none in my appreciation for Mad Men, but it gives me PTSD. (Do you suppose many mobsters watch The Sopranos?) I enjoyed SVU and NCIS when they first ran, but I dunno, now they either seem too violent/depressing or not worth the investment of time. If I'm going to settle in for more than an hour, I'll watch a movie.

I like Law and Order: SVU and Criminal Minds, but I haven't watched much of either one lately. Honestly, there's enough depressing stuff going on in real life that when I watch TV now I want something lighter than our current reality.
ReplyDeleteExcept for Game of Thrones, I didn't watch any of these the first time around, let alone in reruns. I like to watch things in order, so if I miss the first episode or season or whatever of a show, I tend not to watch it. I can't just flop down in the middle of something and go from there.
ReplyDeleteI did watch ER back in the 90s. And I watched Breaking Bad. I occasionally caught House, but I wasn't a regular.
ReplyDeleteI like all medical shows, and have I watch them until they are done. Hubby and I also like NCIS and SVU. I like the 3 Chicago shows on Wed. We started watching Lucy reruns again for the laughs. Today is Lucy's birthday. I was looking for a program called TFC but could not find it on my Direct TV. They were showing Lucy movies for her birthday.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch any of these currently. I watched NCIS a while ago, but I haven't kept up with it in the last decade or so. I watched ER and House when they were first broadcast. But the others? Nope. I do prefer hour long dramas, though.
