Syndicated laughter. Network TV viewership is on the decline, but in some ways, their product is more popular than ever. Cable channels, local broadcast channels and streaming platforms need content, and viewers tend to consider their favorite situation comedies like comfort food.
With a few exceptions, we seem to prefer watching shows post-1980, with the 1990s appearing to be the decade we return to most.
Platforms report views differently so it's impossible to determine what shows are most popular. Instead this list is the 13 titles that cost the most most for channels and platforms to buy. I was surprised to not see The Golden Girls or The King of Queens, because they seem to be on all the time.

My husband has The Big Ban Theory on a lot. We own the DVD set of MASH. I don't think I've ever seen a full episode of Friends. Some shows came on before we had satellite TV, or they came on at a time when I was working at reporting on some meeting.
ReplyDeleteFriends, at least the first couple of seasons, was a fun show. I really like shows from my childhood - I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, Andy Griffith, Mary Tyler Moore. This was a fun list.

ReplyDeleteI... don't really like sitcoms. I don't find them funny. If I'm watching TV, I'm streaming something, and that's more of a deliberate choice. (Which is one reason I don't watch much TV anymore.)
I love Friends! I watched it when it aired and as reruns. I also have the DVDs and the digital/Prime version. Yeah, I'm obsessed.
