Thursday Thirteen #281

Thirteen popular Halloween candies. Yes, it's that time of year when we're all greeted by big bags of "fun sized" candies when we enter the grocery store, big box retailer or drug store.

Here's what kids are looking forward to receiving:

1. M&Ms (Plain)

2. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

3. Kit Kat

4. Peanut M&Ms

5. Butterfinger

6. Snickers

7. Twix

8. Milky Way

9. Hershey's (Milk chocolate)

10. Reese's Pieces

11. Hershey's Kisses

12. Dove Bar Minis (Dark chocolate)

13. Three Musketeers

When I was a kid, I'd plot my trick-or-treating around the convent on the next block. The nuns gave away home-made popcorn balls, which our parents allowed us to keep because who would ever suspect a nun of slipping a razor blade into a popcorn ball? But the popcorn balls were so popular they ran out. That's when I'd like to hit the convent because once the popcorn balls were gone, the nuns give each of us trick-or-treaters a quarter. To Vintage 1969 Gal, 25¢ felt like real money.

  1. That's a great memory about the nuns. I went to catholic school and most of the nuns who taught me were such nice people. I'm sorry if this posts twice. I wasn't sure if it went through the first time. Gotta love computers!

  2. In 1969, 25 cents WAS real money! I can remember taking 50 cents and going up to the Orange Market and returning with a soda, a candy bar, and a comic book, and that was in the early 1970s. You were smart to wait for the quarter!

  3. Yes to all. I haven't purchased any Halloween candy this year. (yet)

  4. PS--I've been thinking about you on your last day of work. I hope this transition goes well, that you can focus on your health, and take a nice look at what's next. xo (you don't have to publish this)

  5. What a fun Halloween memory! MilkyWay is my favorite and I loved Clark Bars, but you rarely see them these days. My kids always knew the Clark Bars in their loot belonged to me!

If I was a kid in your neighborhood, I’d know to come by your place. Trick or treat!

  7. Whoops, that anonymous comment about heading to your place for trick or treat if I were a kid was by me. Cheers!
