That was intense

I saw Gone Girl yesterday. Wow.

I haven't read the book, so I can't comment as to how faithful it was, or which was better. But I will say that what I saw on screen took me on a wild ride. The plot had twists I didn't see coming, the pacing maintained the tension, and the performances were multi-layered and compelling.

As one who watched the Lacey Petersen/Casey Anthony/Jodi Arias trial obsessively, I loved the wise and funny way Nancy Grace was handled. As my friend John once told me, "she is to news as wrestling is to sports."

I also saw Gone Girl yesterday, and you're right--INTENSE is the word for it! I did read the book, and for the most part the plot was pretty faithful--it helped that the author also wrote the screenplay. It's definitely a movie that you need to be careful about when talking about it to people who are planning to see it-best to go in with an empty slate!
(I have to admit that I did "watch" one scene with my eyes mostly squeezed shut--you know the one I'm talking about!)

  2. I just finished posting about this!!! Ditto all that bookmammalmusings said! My eyes were squeezed shut at the exact same time. It was very faithful to the book (with a few tweaks at the end). I didn't read or see any promo stuff so some of it was surprising to me as well. Well done!

  4. I tried to read the book, but stopped because I just wasn't connecting with any of the characters. They were all self-absorbed and so I read it from the back to see what happened. I think I may see the movie just because the suspense would be better from a visual perspective than the book.
