THURSDAY THIRTEEN #65 -- Ways I'm completely out of step with everyone else

THIRTEEN POPULAR THINGS
I SIMPLY DON'T GET

This is one of those times when “it’s not you, it’s me” is completely accurate. I realize the 13 things I list here are all enormously popular and have brought countless people joy, but I just don’t like them.

1. Seinfeld
2. Everybody (but me) Loves Raymond
3. Star Wars
4. Lord of the Rings
5. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt
6. The 3 Stooges
7. The Food Channel
8. Sushi
9. Lager
10. Any wine I’m supposed to drink warm
11. The Auto Show
12. NCAA Basketball and “brackets”
13. Scrapbooking

If you’re fond of one of these 13 items, please don’t bother defending it. I won’t get what you say anyway. When it comes to these things, I’m hopelessly out of step. Instead, answer this question:

Is there a pop culture phenomenon that leaves you
scratching your headand asking, “huh?”

PS Sorry I didn't play along with this week's theme. I'm just a rebel, I guess.

  1. I'm with you on all but the scrapbooking. For me, it's television in general. I don't watch, don't care. It leaves me out in the cold in a lot of conversations. Happy TT!

Apart from #1 and #10, I agree with you absolutely! Should we form a club? Maybe have special jackets made?

  3. I can relate. It's the attitude that makes you hate a couple of them. Like Seinfeld and Everybody Loves Raymond. I don't like them either. Interesting list. If everyone liked oranges who'd eat the apples? Differences makes the world go round. Have a great TT. :)

  4. I don't see what all the fuss is about regarding "Grey's Anatomy". By the way, I beat you!

  8. I like Raymond, but the bus left without me on all those other ones, too.

  9. Great subject for a TT!

Things I don't get - oh, where do I start? For brevity, I'll limit the list to two.
    1. American Idol (or any "reality" show for that matter)
    2. Titanic - saw it once at the theater and would never knowingly or willingly watch it again.

  10. Lots of controversy about fluoride, mostly it is really bad for you. So, yeah, filtered water everywhere we go. Here is a link if you are curious about the hazards...

HIGHLY disagree about Star Wars but I thought I was the only one who didn't love Raymond. And I think you need to be male to get the Stooges. Great list.

  12. "Is there a pop culture phenomenon that leaves you scratching your head and asking, “huh?”" Yes! Reality shows! WHY do people like them? I totally don't get it.

Oh Gal, you've broken my heart. How can you NOT like NCAA basketball? (This from a girl who was raised on basketball - and who's father was a sportswriter for several Indiana newspapers Snowbird

  14. You, are my twin. I think? :)

I don't get Jolie-Pitt, The 3 Stooges, Sushi, Star Wars, etc. I do adore the Food Channel, but that's just cuz I'm a Foodie!

    Happy TT!

  15. Oh my gosh, we must be twins! I agree with you on ALL of those- what are the odds? I don't know why I can't get into Everybody Loves Raymond...I really have tried!! Happy TT :)

  16. 4 & 10 I do like, even better if together--but the rest? I am right there with you! Great list.

  17. I am with you on nine of your list. I am clueless as to the attraction of warm booze and Seinfeld.

This week is my Thursday Thirteen #78. It is unthemed but I think it is still good. 13 things I might get with my incentive check Stop by if you get a chance.

Boy I completely agree on most of them then was like -what's to get about Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt? I do like Lord of the Rings but don't really understand the phenomena - having read the books when I was little.

    But Seinfeld? WTF??

  20. Yep, Id have to agree although I love watching someone else cook on the food channel but not when Im hungry:) Happy TT my friend.

  23. I'm glad you are honest about it. I have just a couple of favorites there and no, I will not defend them :o) I do not get nose rings, and pants hanging under guy's butt.
    Happy TT!

  24. Yep...with the exception of #3 & 4 I completely agree! Wow! Warm wine...thats just gross!

My TT is up as well! Have a great day!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I like to sleep or doze with the food channel lol. I'm with you on these. Great TT

  26. I don't care for much in the way of TV...and I can't sit still long enough to watch movies. Beers make me ill, and I will only drink a little bit of wine...I don't care for fashion or fads...I don't follow "celebrities"...I think I don't fit this century very well...

3, 4, and 7 are the only things on your list I do get. The rest I'm just as lost as you are. In fact there are levels of 3 and 4 I still don't get despite being a fan. *grin*

  30. #2, #4, #5, #6,#10, and #12
    I completely agree!

I like Lord of the Rings, but I'm with you on the rest.

  32. There are a few things on your list that I like, but for me it's most of what is on TV these days. I don't see the draw in "reality" shows at all.

Slapstick in any form leaves me cold. I hated "I Love Lucy" - I found it embarrassing to watch.

    Happy TT!

I am with you on everything in your list except #2 (it's okay, I don't hate it) and #7 (only like "Iron Chef").

    Happy TT!

  34. I'm with you on all of them but 7 and 13! The food channel taught me how to cook without having to southern fry it!!! Great list! Happy TT!

    There are so many things...hmmm...

Okay, how about the mere concept of "Horror Films." Why?

Oh, and I totally agree with #1 and #2. Add to that the interest in House MD, All CSIs, and ER.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't get, and never have, The Simpsons. I don't get Lord of the Rings or Star Trek wither.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If you mean you prefer ales over lager than I'm with you. And the drinking does help one appreciate those sit-coms!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I am on bored with all but the Food Network.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Late but still commenting. :-)

    Totally get #1,2,3,4,7,13
    Don't get # 5,6,8,9,10,11,12

I scratch my head at those crocs shoes. You know, the big ugly plastic looking things? I think those will be some of the fashion icks that people look back on later. Like the whole "Flashdance" fashion of the 80's.

And I've seen American IDol and reality shows mentioned a lot in the comments and having to say I am a fan of American Idol myself. I get that. :-)
