THURSDAY THIRTEEN #149

THE THIRTEEN
MOST POPULAR
CHRISTMAS SONGS

Thanks to Wikipedia for this list (and the pretty tree photo, too).

1  "The Christmas Song" (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire) – Mel Tormé, Robert Wells

7  "Jingle Bell Rock" – Joseph Carleton Beal, James Ross Boothe

9  "Sleigh Ride" – Leroy Anderson, Mitchell Parish

11  "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" – Edward Pola, George Wyle

12  "I'll Be Home for Christmas" – Walter Kent, Kim Gannon, Buck Ram

I'm not surprised to see #12 on the list. I think I have heard "I'll Be Home for Christmas" performed by everyone from Karen Carpenter to Lou Rawls this year. I'm starting to wonder where the singer is that he or she won't be home for Christmas. Prison? The military? Working the holiday shift at a hospital? The backstory on that one changes for me depending on who is doing the singing.

  1. I love the Carpenters' versions of the Christmas classics.

Great list! Very much in the spirit. I'm afraid I was a scrooge today with my TT.

  3. I guess I'm a little surprised "White Christmas" is down at number 5 -- and below songs 2, 3 and 4 -- considering it was the top-selling Christmas song of all time.

  6. Heather, why aren't you surprised White Christmas is also after #1. :) This list is based on number of performances, overall sales, etc. That one single recording is the best selling of all time. Obviously other versions weren't as successful.

  9. I always love seeing Christmas music list and the artist people choice. I grew up with all of these songs, but done by completely different people, it's amazing. :)

    Happy T13,
