Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Melancholy Man

1. Are you more melancholy on occasion? I don't know how to answer this. I get melancholy on occasion, but it happens less often than it used to.

2. What did you think you looked like when you were a teenager? I was pudgy, with zits around my nose and a long, light brown ponytail.

3. Whose advice are you least likely to listen to? Either of my sisters.

4. Tell us about a job that you liked when you were younger. Babysitting. Once the kids fell asleep, I could just eat potato chips and watch TV. And I got paid for this!

5. Would you lie to someone if you knew the truth would end your friendship or relationship? Depends on the lie.

6. What do you have little or no patience for? People who take up too much space with their stuff. As in, why does your water bottle deserve a spot on the bench in the locker room?

7. What is there never enough hours in the day to do? Really scrubbing down the bathroom. Gee, I wish I could squeeze it in. It's looks like such fun.

8. What is the most productive thing that you accomplished in October? Got the cats up to date on their shots/vet trips.

9. What have you always wanted to learn but haven't yet? Spanish. I tried over the summer but got distracted.

Saturday 9

Saturday 9: Mrs. Potter's Lullaby

1. Adam Duritz (writer and lead sing of Counting Crows) mentions previous girlfriends in songs. In Mrs. Potter's Lullaby he sings “There a little piece of Maria in every song I sing”. Is there a piece of an ex that will always be a part of you? Yes. A day doesn't go by that I don't think of him wish him well. He was (and still is, I'm sure) a very nice man.

2. Who was your very first significant friend? The one I creatively refer to as My Oldest Friend. There is photographic evidence that we met in late 1962. I remember Beatle-bonding with her in February 1964, when we were in first grade, and I plighted my troth to (not yet Sir) Paul and she to George.

3. What are four (4) things you hope to do this weekend? (1) Get to and from downtown the Loop for lunch with a coworker -- a trial run for my daily commutes when I return to work on Wednesday; (2) do some exercise of some type; (3) catch some of the NCIS marathon on USA network -- have I mentioned lately how much I love Gibbs? (4) Give extra affection to my cat, Charlotte, as I'm worried about her medical malady

4. What do you consider to be the main purpose of your blog? To create an honest snapshot of my life at this moment

5. Tell us something that you've never before written about in your blog because it's too personal. There really hasn't been anything. I'm just careful that "the names have been changed to protect the innocent." Usually me.

6. If you could choose your doctor, do you prefer someone of the same or opposite sex? Why can't I choose my own doctor?

7. If you could dream about anything tonight, what would the subject matter be? Him. But most emphatically not Bill Clinton. I had a very detailed sex dream about The Big Dog and it upset me terribly. I mean, fantasizing about a President? That's creepy. Whose next? Abe? Thomas Jefferson?

8. How do you react to practical jokes when they're played on you? My best friend used to play them on me constantly. At the time I hated it. But now that we see one another so seldom, I miss it.

9. What's on your agenda after this weekend for the upcoming week? I'm returning to work for the first time in more than a month! I expect my agenda to include apologizing for having to wear sweats and other oversized elastic-waistband pants to the office.

Saturday Special #6

~Personal Preferences~

1. Quiet evening at home or Out on the town? My partygirl days are over, so my first impulse is to stay home. But every once in a while I like to go out on the town with friends.

2. Watch a movie or Reading a good book? Oooooo … this is such a tough one because I love them both so much! If it's a choice between watching a movie on DVD/cable or a book, I'll choose the book. But if it's actually going to the movies, sitting in a dark theater and eating Sno-Caps, I'll choose the movie.

3. Order a meal or Cooking one yourself? Ordering! So much less clean up afterward.

4. Going for a walk or Taking a ride in the car? Walking.

Saturday Special #5

~This Past Week Did You...~

1. Have anything exciting happen?
Reconnected with my best friend after about a month. I missed him!

2. Buy anything new (and I don't mean groceries)?
THAT GIRL: Season 3 on DVD. I loved that show when I was a little girl,
and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Seasons 1 and 2.

3. Go anywhere special?
Dinner and a play with my former boss/longtime friend.

4. Discover a new restaurant?
No. Just the opposite. Before the play (#3), we met at Italian Village.
It's been open since the 1920s, making it
the oldest Italian restaurant in all of Chicago
(and one of our favorites).

Saturday Special #3

Boy, could I use an imaginary vacation! Thanks to Toni at the Saturday Special for giving me a wonderful excuse to fantasize.

~Vacation Preferences~

1. Traveling by Air, Sea or Land?
Land! Specifically by train (like the Saturday Special). I seldom have time to take Amtrak over long distances, but I wish I could. It's relaxing, and terrific for people watching.

2. Hotel, Camp Grounds or Summer Cottage?
First choice: hotel. Second: summer cottage. For me, campgrounds would feel like a punishment, not a vacation.

3. Sightseeing, Weather Related Sports or Relaxing?
Depends on where I am. New York of DC? Sightseeing! Los Angeles? Relaxing.

4. Favorite vacation season?
Early spring. Pre-spring break, but post-Christmas. I find a really need a break then!

Saturday Special #2

Time again to use your imagination ;-} Fill in the blanks.

1. You are walking along the surf of a lonely seaside and I think I see something … or someone … familiar.

2. As you walk further along you notice the posture of the figure I'm approaching. I recognize that it's best my friend! He has his Blackberry pressed against his cheek and he's speaking animatedly to someone.

3. Your curiosity gets the best of you and you get close enough to listen in. He's leaving a message on my voicemail! He wants me to join him on a dinner cruise, but once again, I don't have my cell phone on. He's soooo frustrated with me.

4. From the distance you can see the ship we'll be sailing and dining and drinking upon. Of course we end up having a wonderful time. We always do when we're together.

Visit the Saturday Special for more information, or to "climb aboard and join in" yourself.
