Godfather, Parts 1 and 2. To me, these two movies have morphed into one EPIC. And they are non-stop action, even if some of the action is plotting and chicanery. You can call the Corleones many things -- but "boring" is not among them.
Valley of the Dolls. The guiltiest of all guilty pleasures. The clothes! The hair! (Including a wig that memorably meets its demise in the ladies' room.) The sex! The booze! The pills! The horrible songs! The wretched dialog! All this excess is make it the perfect antidote for boredom.
These are the thoughts and observations of me — a woman of a certain age. (Oh, my, God, I'm 65!) I'm single. I'm successful enough (independent, self supporting). I live just outside Chicago, the best city in the world. I'm an aunt and a friend. I feel that voices like mine are rather underrepresented online or in print. So here I am. If my musings resonate with you, please visit my blog again sometime.
I would have chosen the Princess Bride because it's always fun. :-)
ReplyDeleteI am laughing at just how opposite Kwizgiver's selection is to yours :0) I agree with her - The Princess Bride is fun. Any movie with lots of quotable dialogue is great for boredom - like the Godfathers. I have never seen Valley of the Dolls. In fact, I didn't even know there was a movie. I just remember seeing that paperback cover around the house growing up!
ReplyDeleteI never saw Valley of the dolls but I watched both Godfathers as a child and Loved them! They are very involving and would be great at chasing boredom away!
ReplyDeleteMy husband is the Godfather fan in our family. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment on my blog!
ReplyDeleteI remember that my parents took me to see Valley of the Dolls when I was like 6. WTF? I'm thinking that would now be considered most inappropriate. But that was back in the "Mad Men" days when it was all "anything goes", you know.
ReplyDeleteAnd I did watch The Godfather and wasn't all that impressed. Do I need to give up my Italian heritage crown now that I've admitted that?
I think I'm going to have to watch Valley of the Dolls~
