Sunday Stealing

3 x 5

Three things I love (Remember, these are things, not people):

1. Coca Cola

2. Chocolate milk

3. Cinnamon (both taste and scent)

Three things on my desk:

1. A pile of papers I probably don't need

2. A cube notepad

3. A pencil cup made by gluing crayons to a styrofoam cup (a gift from my nephew when he was in Kindergarten)

Three things I can't do:

1. Sing

2. Dance

3. Drive

Three things I'm good at:

1. Writing

2. Pet care

3. Earning airline miles (really, I'm quite the rewards whore)

Three things I want to accomplish:

Here are my 2026 goals –

1. Make a drop off/month at either Goodwill or my local resale shop

2. Find a new pair of really comfortable athletic shoes (my beloved Nikes aren't gonna last forever)

3. Drink more water every day

  1. Not driving - I had seven driver;s permits but never a license -n is definitely a mixed bag in America; people treat one differently.

  2. Where I live, it would be very hard not to be able to drive. There is no bus service in our area. We don't have a subway, either.

  3. I read yesterday that some stores are going to stop taking credit cards that offer certain rewards and airline miles because apparently the stores are charged a higher fee for those. Or if they take them, they're going to add a 3% fee to the card use. I will go back to checks before I pay extra fees to use a credit card.

    1. Major chains have been complaining about for months, but I doubt it will happen. How can they tell what rewards are on your card before you swipe? They cannot. So they are going to wait until the transaction is submitted, and then refuse the transaction? They will not only lose your sale, they will have to restock all the items in your bag. It will slow down customer service and add dozens of tasks to the already overworked staff. Or they can try to accommodate this by hiring more people ... but they are not going to do that because it will cost more than the 3%. BTW, good luck trying to find stores that accept checks. Call in advance. Better yet, stop at the ATM and get cash. Everyone still takes cash.

    2. I haven't encountered anywhere locally that doesn't take checks, although I haven't paid with a check except for a few places in years. My dentist office started charging a 3% fee to take a credit card and now they get paid with a check. My chiropractor prefers a check so she doesn't have to pay the credit card fee. I pay the insurance bills with checks for the same reason, I won't pay the credit card fee. Other places may not take checks, I don't know. We always pay cash when we go out to eat, anyway, so until someplace like the grocery store starts charging a fee or not taking my card, it's not an issue. I just hope it doesn't become one.

    3. I have not been in a grocery store, big box store or restaurant that accepts checks since the last century. So if that's the way you insist on rolling, again, I suggest you phone first. I'm thinking of the poor sales associate at the counter who will have to find out if it's OK to accept your check and then wonders what forms of ID will be required. (Really, cash would just be easier.) The time I write checks each month is when I contribute to charities. I don't want them to have to pay the 3% fee and my cancelled check is my receipt. Plus it's through the mail, so I don't have to worry about the poor person in line behind me at the grocery store waiting while my check is approved at the register. Since I'm on Medicare, my medical bills are minimal and I suppose I could pay cash. But my doctors bill me through an online portal, so I'm not even sure how I would pay by check. My dentist doesn't blink when I whip out the credit card, but even after insurance, my bill last month was over $2000, kind of a lot to expect patients to have as cash on hand.

  4. you are the second person I "know" who can't drive!! Did you never take drivers ed or did you never need to?? If I lived in Boston (my fave city) i wouldn't need to own a car.

My hubby is good at getting all those hotel and airplane rewards.

I just bought a pair of New Balance power walking sneakers I LOVE. I think the model is called Free Form. Something like that. Worth every cent.
    Enjoyed your answers!

  5. Earning airline miles sounds like an amazing gift to have. I'm also trying to drink more water. I need some kind of siren or sound to remind me though!

  7. I'm going to join your goal for dropping off unused items. I've been trying so hard to not be complacent and let stuff accumulate since I moved.
