Thursday Thirteen #242

The Thirteen Most Popular Cat Names of 2021. I live in a two-cat household and spend a lot of time at the vet. I've noticed in recent years that more and more people are giving their pets more "human" names, veering away from "Fluffy" and "Mittens." I see my observation is not unique to my neighborhood. Here are last year's most popular feline monikers.

1. Luna

2. Milo

3. Oliver

4. Leo

5. Loki

6. Bella

7. Charlie

8. Willow

9. Simba

10. Lucy

11. Lily

12. Nala

13. Kitty (the outlier)

None of my cats has gone by those names. Over my lifetime, I've shared my home with Tommy, Little Tommy, Snoozer, Trouble, Annie, Wilma, Tara, Allison, Billy, Joey, Charlotte, Reynaldo, and currently Connie and Roy Hobbs. (My mom named Snoozer and Trouble.)

This is the aggregate of two lists I found online.

  1. Hubby and I are big history buffs and several of our cats were named after historical figures (specifically Civil War generals), but alas, our last cat was known simply as "Mr. Kitty."

  2. Cats I grew up with or have owned have been Ebony, Pampers, Fluffy, Albert, Candy, Portnoy, Pumpkin, Mickey, Cowboy, Spook, and Jasper. My daughter's 3 cats are Seneca, Keke, and Oakley.

  3. We had a cat named Loki in 1980. She ran off and was never found!

  4. We never had cats. We had dogs. They were named Prince, Princess, Heidi, Major, Schooner, Clipper, Trixie and then I moved away and had one dog, Ginger. We have a few cats down at the barn but we don't name them or feed them or ask for them to be there. They are strays that people toss out who find their way to where the mice are.

  5. I have a Lily (she's all white, it fit), a Lucy, a Randall, and an Ellie. Past kitties are Spooky, Tigger, Tiger, Misty, and Binx.

  6. Fun list. I only ever had dogs: Figaro, Mopsie, Tsing-tsing, and Maggie.

  7. Fun list! My cats now are Benny and Baby Cat. As an adult I had a Velvet, Milo (yes, he was orange striped!), Percy, Thomas (he got in the fireplace and jumped onto the shelf thing when he first arrived like Tom Kitten) All but Velvet were found or found us.
