THE THIRTEEN
MOST COMMON NAMES
FOR DOGS & CATS
MOST COMMON NAMES
FOR DOGS & CATS
The ASPCA asked veterinarians for the most popular pet names, and Max tops the list. I got the idea for this TT when I took one of my cats* to a new vet and saw they had displayed their own list of their most common patient names and yes, Max was on theirs, too.
1. Max
2. Sam (Samantha placed #19)
3. Lady
4. Bear
5. Smokey
6. Shadow
7. Kitty
8. Molly
9. Buddy
10. Brandy
11. Ginger
12. Baby
13. Misty
Does your pet's name appear on the list?
*Joey, a name not on the list.

Yup, my pets name is on the list. I have two Golden Retrievers named Benny and Samson (Sam for short) Great idea for you TT and thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy Mom had a cat named Smokey. My grandfather had a dog named Lady. I don't have a pet (yet), but if I did I think I'm name him (or her) Skillet (smile).
ReplyDeleteOur neighbors had a German Shepherd named Shadow...I thought that was sooooo appropriate for the markings!!
ReplyDeleteMy 13 is posted...stop by and hopefully laugh once or twice with Jefé the wise ol' lady!!
Wow, I wonder why Max is so popular. I go for different. I've had pets names Taffy, Clyde, Snickers, Tigger, Claw, Louie and Onyx. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a pet. I guess I've missed out.
ReplyDeleteWe have a Siamese cat called Sam. Actually his name is Sampan, but we always use the shortened version.
ReplyDeletewe had a number 7 that would have cringed for his buddies to know of his name:)
ReplyDeleteNow that's a fun list! I don't think I've seen one quite like it - and so helpful to us aspiring authors.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I had a wiener dog named Figaro, a rescue dog named Mopsie and most recently, Tsing-tsing.
ReplyDeleteNot on the list.
I once had a dog named Max. Fun list, Happy T13!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any cats so I guess I am not qualified to answer your question. But I like the name Misty!
ReplyDeleteMy TT is up 13 Christmas Gifts for our Muslim Friends.
I don't see "Demon Dog From Hell" on the list! No, he's not. How bad can an 8 lb toy poodle be?
ReplyDeleteLet me count the ways...

ReplyDeletewell, I had a dog named Maxmillion (Max) and a manx cat named Shadow...but, none of my current pet's names made the list...I'm kinda surprised there IS no Murphy, actually...
ReplyDeleteWe had Thumper the rabbit. I assume that was number one on the "rabbit names" list. Now we have cats named Minnie and Pumpkin. Our children came up with both names.
ReplyDeleteI love the name Sam. Think I might name my next cat that. Happy TT!
ReplyDeletei don't think any of our pets names will ever end up on the most popular list........we have "lily is the enemy", "russel crowe", "z", "pigasus", "cupig", "sister mary rotunda" and "tuddrussle" just to name a few lol
ReplyDeleteLOL! I've known several pets named Max and Sam. Our pets are Diva, Sage, Burnsie, and Gamera (a turtle, obviously).
ReplyDeleteI had a cat named Buddy. That is funny!!! I was surprised Midnight wasn't on there for the black cats. I had one of those also.
ReplyDeleteNope - Dixie is my cat - named by the cat sanctuary. He's a cool cat!

None of my pets names are on that list. We have Kairo, Cleo, Scooby, Unagi, Ping, Mickey and Turbo. Yep, we have a full house!
ReplyDeleteHappy TT!
How funny! My last pet was named after a character in literature! Definitely none of them on the list! I have a friend who has had several of those though!
ReplyDeleteI knew Stacio was an original. None of my cats' are on the list. No Punky, Mini or Muffin ( she came with that name...)
ReplyDeleteMy dog's name is Baby, which I kinda know is boring. I wanted to name her Princess, but when I got her together with my now ex-boyfriend, he got a male dog for himself too, and I suggested at first, Prince and Princess, but that would be confusing to them. So it became Prince and Baby. I wish I had stuck to Princess. LOL!
ReplyDeleteMy pets name does not appear on the list although i always wanted to dog named Molly! :)
ReplyDeleteI like your list of names. I met a "Smokey Tuxedo" cat this week. The cat's coloring was such it looked like he was dressed in a tuxedo. Very nice animal. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteHi, I have enjoyed looking at your blog. I don't know how I should feel about the fact that my daughter's name is one of the top 10 names for dogs, but my dog's name isn't on the list. I thought you might like know that we own a pet shop called The Animal Store in Lincolnwood. I recently started a blog for the store — click here to check it out and let me know what you think. I hope you'll visit us in person or online at theanimalstore.com. I look forward to meeting you — just ask for Kenn.
