Admitting a problem is the first step to solving it

I am such a geek! I'm actually watching the DNC Rules Committee discuss the Michigan and Florida mess!

I started feeling better a little before noon, grabbed my headphones and listened to the Cubs game (we won, naturally) as I ran errands and got my 10,000 steps in.

But I'm home now. Perfectly content to stay on the couch and enjoy the opportunity to peer behind the curtain and see how my party really operates. A beer would make this Saturday pretty damn perfect. I've partied enough this week. I'm happy to indulge my powerful inner geek.

  2. As someone who lives in Michigan and voted in the Democratic primary, I have very mixed feelings about this. I won't go into that here, but suffice it to say that this whole debacle just adds to my very strong feelings that we need to abolish the electoral college and let the citizens of this country make their choice by a popular vote. One person's vote for a candidate should actually BE a vote for the candidate.

  3. Ms.Mama: Watch the HBO movie Recount and get back to me on that. We'd have that debacle again in all 50 states. We simply don't have the technology or the will to make sure everyone's individual vote is counted. It's ugly and it's sad but it's true.

As one who lives in Illinois, a state that hasn't played a real role in the nominating process in decades, I completely understand your frustration. Carl Levin was very articulate on your behalf today, too. The problem is the primary calendar.

I'm curious: When you voted, did your state Democratic Party make it clear that your vote wasn't going to count?

  4. Gal - Oh, I know that a popular vote wouldn't be perfect either. It's just so frustrating to see this kind of crap go on, not to mention that the winner of the popular vote in 2000 didn't win the election. (Not here to argue that point, though. :) )

With regard to your question - I honestly don't recall what was said about the primary not counting. Tim and I were both so aware of that point that whatever was actually mentioned at the poll didn't really register. I didn't read something there and think "What do they mean this isn't going to count." I already knew. That's a really good question, though, and I wish I could remember.

Snowbird here. As if things weren't bad enough in Michigan. Rickbo and I can do one of two things - stay in Michigan where we are currently registered voters or.....claim legal residency in Florida and become registered voters down there. Is there a "lesser of two evils" here??
