Saturday 9: Vision of Love (1990)
Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.
1) The lyrics refer to "sweet destiny." Do you believe in destiny? Not really. OK, sometimes. I admit it: it depends on when you ask me.
5) When she was a high school student, she was nicknamed "Mirage" because she skipped class so often. Did you ever play hooky? I often disappeared after lunch. Especially if the weather was good. I really hated high school.
6)
Mariah doesn't apologize for spoiling her dogs, who have been known to
travel by limo. Do you know anyone who treats their pets like people? That would be me.
7)
In 1990, the year this song was popular, Martina Navratilova won the
Wimbledon Women's Singles Tournament. How's your tennis game? Non-existent.
8) Also in 1990, Pope John Paul II toured Mexico. Have you ever visited our neighbor south of the border? Nope.
9) Random question(s): There are Gofundme campaigns for many purposes. Have you ever solicited funds online? Would you? I don't think so, but I'll never say never. After my friend Henry's accident, his husband Reg asked for help to pay the bills during Henry's rehab. It raised $12,500 in just six months. When he later found out about the Gofundme, Henry was mortified, but they really needed the money to stay afloat. My coworker, Carla, started a Gofundme for a friend of hers who was furloughed and then got sick and is facing eviction, which would mean being separated from the much-loved dog she rescued. This fund raised $1,000 in a week. If I found myself in such catastrophic straits, maybe I would start a fund.
On the other hand, some people seem rather shame-free in the things they expect others to pay for. And, speaking of shame-free, if you've had your Gofundme up for more than 30 days and no one has given you a cent, take the sucker down. Show some pride!
I enjoyed all of your answers today.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Saturday my friend.
I agree with you on the gofundme. I did try to support a local author through one, but he didn't make his goal so his book didn't get published. He started it just before the lockdowns and then didn't do much advertising for it. I think that would be a hustle to keep up. I am glad you had a good time at your niece's wedding, that you enjoyed your accommodations (Batman?) and that people wore masks. I am glad you felt safe and were able to participate in this.
ReplyDeleteI am so with you on the GoFundMe stuff. I think all the ridiculous things I have seen people put up expecting others to pay for has kind of turned me off on it...even though there are lots of cases, like Henry's, where it has been a Godsend to someone truly in need.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with you on #9.
ReplyDeleteA couple is always having a Go Fund Me drive, this time to pay off the deductible to repair their car after a hit and run accident.
The thing is on Facebook they are always going out to dinner, traveling (last weekend they went to NYC to see a game show), or buying kitchen gadgets
I am with you on Goodreads. I have to put every book on there that I have read recently because I lose track of what I have read. I love that app/website.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with your answer to #9! Loved your answers! Have a nice weekend.

You and I have identical answers to #7
ReplyDeleteI should review on GoodReads--lord knows I spend enough time on the site browsing books. But I tend to just keep it on my blog.
ReplyDeleteIt's easy to love on dogs. They don't argue with you, they just love on you. They let you love on them. They are loyal and loving.
