Thursday Thirteen #56 -- 13 of my favorite products

Last week, when it was wicked cold and wet outside, I stopped at CVS on my way home from the train. I had to pick up a prescription and decided to buy other essentials before retreating to the dry warmth and comfort of my home for the night. “Paper towels!” I reminded myself and went to the appropriate aisle.

CVS doesn’t sell my preferred brand: Viva. I love Viva paper towels! They are the best for cleaning up after a cat has deposited the contents of his/her stomach on my carpet.

I settled for Bounty, but it wasn’t the same. When it comes to certain products, I want what I want and I want nothing else.

Milk? Whatever. Bread? Ditto. I’m a complete slut when it comes to condiments -- the cheaper, the better. But for the 13 items listed below, they’re my faves and they’re the ones that I want.

I stole this TT idea from someone. If it was you, speak up
so I can thank you.

1. Viva Paper Towels. White, no prints. And one size fits all. I resist those “choose-a-size” sheets; they tear too easily and then no matter what, I have the smallest size.

2. Shout Color Catchers. These lovely white sheets catch the loose dyes, enabling me to wash my white panties with my sweaters, regardless of the color.

3. Pledge Multi-Surface Wipes. I use them across (almost) my entire kitchen. Counters, stove-top, refrigerator door … even spot cleaning the floor. Good on mirrors, too. And, unlike any of the disinfecting wipes, I can dependably get them out of the package!

4. Woolite Foam Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner. I used to be a Resolve Foam girl, but I’ve found Woolite to be gentler, yet just as effective.

5. Edge Shave Gel. I trust these calves to nothing else.

6. Aquify Contact Lens Solution. It cleans! It soaks! It moisturizes! It would start my car, too, if I had one.

7. Dove Original Scent Anti-Perspirant Solid. Doesn’t leave streaks on my clothes. Plus I love Dove’s Everywoman advertising, so I’m happy to support the brand.

8. CVS Moisturizing Oatmeal Bath. In the packets. This is the “store brand” version of Aveeno, and trust me, it works just as well as the expensive name brand.

9. The Body Shop Shea Body Butter. Thick enough to really moisturize, fragrant-neutral enough to not compete with any scent I apply later.

10. Clinique Repairwear Eye Cream. Preserves my natural, dewey beauty.

11. Yoplait Yogurt. Fools my sweet tooth into believing we’ve had dessert.

12. Coke Classic. Coca Cola, preferably in the red can. I don’t like Pepsi, I don’t like generic, I don’t like Diet Coke. I want my Coke Classic.

13. Post Select Great Grains. Flakes, pecans, dates and raisins – my favorite cereal. Bar none.

  1. Woolite rocks. Nothing smells better. This is a great list. Sometimes the store brands just don't cut it...

  2. I hear you on # 12. Do you remember "New Coke" back in the 80's? Does # 10 really work? Happy TT.

  3. I love lots of stuff from Clinique and have decided that no matter what, I will continue to get it, even if it cost a little more. :)

  4. I am funny about a few products as well. It must be Hellmans Mayo! LOL. Have a really fun TT!

  5. I also have some brands that I can't do without. One is Vaseline lotion. I once went with a generic brand, but it just didn't make it for me.

Thanks for visiting my SNL TT. In answer to your question, I didn't include Charles Rocket because I don't think his post-SNL career was on the same level as the 13 that made the list.

  6. Anonymous5:37 PM

It's good to know what you like. You have me wondering what I would list...

  7. Very interesting...a great great subject to list for our Thursdays. Ingenious!!

My 13 this week is just thirteen new headers I made if you'd like to drop by and take one or all. They're free. lol

  8. Anonymous7:09 PM

Strangely enough, I don't actually use an oatmeal bath! But I do drink real Coke. Poured into a glass. Not diet, now low cal, not caffeine free, but Coke.

Oh, and I love the idea of a condiment slut! I'll never think of you the same way now!

  9. Don't you just love that Clinique eye cream? It is amazing stuff!

    The Pink Flamingo

  10. I'm so with you on this. I too like what I like and I don't want to use anything else. I'v a Viva fan too. Have a great TT. :)

  11. I have to agree with you on Yoplait yogurt...I can't stand any other brand. Great list!

  12. i don't know why, but i always get a kick out of these lists. how fun! happy TT :)

  13. Yep, there are some things will NOT compromise on. You're right.

  14. I agree 100% about Viva Paper Towels. Nothing else comes close.
    Great list!

Mine's 13 Hunks of Disney Animation this week @ It's A Blog Eat Blog World (
    Can you name them all?

  15. I really don't care about most name brands...if I can get the store brand for cheaper, I'm happy...except for Coke...MUST have the classic Coke!!!

    Happy T-13!

  16. Anonymous9:09 PM

I'm a pepsi girl.. but Coke when I leave the US. Then it is the OLD coke, not the new one.

    Happy TT.

  17. Natural dewy look???? What about the freaking bags, still looking for the perfect product there.

Coke, diet, lime- mmm, some rum would be nice.

No 13, but I finally posted again.

  18. There are a few of my favorites in there as well. Dont you just love Viva? There are a few I need to try too. Happy TT my friend.

  19. I just love Color Catchers! They are the best!!!

(I have to say though, I can't stand the Viva paper towels. I bought them once, and had to give them away.)

  20. Fun list. I did one a few weeks ago, but I don't know if you got the idea from me or not. ;)

I'm with you on the Coke and Yoplait. All other yogurt brands are gross. (and I've tried them!)

Paper towels-I found I love the Bounty Basic. Maybe I'll try Viva again, though.

    Have a good day1

  21. HEH! WOOT on the Coke! One of my 'can't do without its' is Mr Clean Antibacterial all surface multipurpose wipes. OMG! that stuff can clean the goop off my stove without scrubbing! Great TT!

  22. wow I use none of those maybe Ill try a few

  23. Interesting list! I've been thinking to get a color catcher and keep forgetting. Maybeyour reminder will help.

  24. i am so on board with this....i like what i like, no apologies. great list! happy t13!

  25. Anonymous8:59 AM

I think I'll have to get some of those color catching sheets. I've wondered if they work.

  26. Anonymous9:40 AM

    Love the Viva! Happy TT.

  27. I am totally with you about Coke.

You've also convinced me to try the Shout color catchers. I'd be able to do laundry a load a day if I didn't have to wait all week so I had loads of similar colors enough to fill the washer...
    Happy T13 & great list!

  28. I love the Shout color catchers but they stopped selling them here. I need to look for them online, I guess.

    This is an awesome TT!

  29. Anonymous10:43 AM

    Another brand loyalist!

The Body Shop Body Butters are among my must haves. And there is simply nothing like Carmex!

    Happy TT

  30. I may have to buy some of those Shout color catchers! Great list..I love the magic eraser as well..

  31. Good list.

I haven't tried many of the things on your list, but some of them sound like they would be very useful!

Coke is my soft drink of choice too...I'm a recovering addict, actually. :) I haven't had any since this summer, but sometimes when I see an unattended can on my coworker's desk, I have to remind myself that it's wrong to steal.

  32. I love your TT! I also am a HUGE fan of The Body Shop Shea Body Butter.

  33. You are absolutely tagged for the quirks meme!!!

  34. Anonymous12:25 PM

"Wrigley Field to be renamed...." Please say it isn't so!! Snowbird

  35. I cannot live without my Color Catchers. I love Color Catchers!!!!!

  36. Yoplait for me! Great list. I'll have to try some. My TT today 13 reason I love winter...albeit a little sarcastic! Have a great day! Brenda

  37. I am a Diet Pepsi gal myself but agree Yoplait is the only yogurt for me. Great theme, may have to do this someday.
This week's TT is a retrospect of the 1930s at the Cafe.

  38. Great idea for a list. I cracked up when I began reading though, because I am exactly the same way about my paper towels but they MUST be Bounty, preferably Select-A-Size. LOL, guess that's why there are so many choices!
I will have to check out the Shout Color Catchers too. They sound great.
May have to steal this idea some day too. I am only on TT #5 and am uninspired. It may be the day. Spring's around the corner and hopefully inspiration as well!

  39. Anonymous2:47 PM

I am true to Soft Scrub gel with bleach. I have yet to find another product to compare to it.
Clinique face moisturizer is the best in my book

  40. I will have to try the Woolite one I use resolve and the apartment is not happy with me. Does it get up ink stains?

  41. I would be interested in seeing if males feel the same brand loyalty as women. Personally as far as paper prodcts go I coould care less. But I love Coke and get pretty upset at fast food joints that serve only Pepsis products. I know guys can get particular about car parts and power tools but deoderant and paper towels? Interesting post. My T13 is up (late) so stop by if you get a chance. I listed 13 TV shows I Would Like to Be a Character On

  42. I've been a total clinique-a-zoid for twenty years.
    wow, sounds old.
I will have to try those color catcher sheets.

  43. I officially buy whatever is on sale, except when it comes to TP. Its Charmin or Northern for this feathery ass

  44. Anonymous8:47 PM

I need to try those dye catcher washing machine things (I know, I need to learn the name so I can actually find them in the store).

    Happy (belated) TT! :)
