I spent my extra, "fall-behind" hour with Tom Cruise as Jerry Maguire. The scene with Dorothy on the front porch, when his fingertips lightly dance over bare neck, back and shoulders ... sigh.
I know, I know ... the couch jumping was weird. It bugged me that he was so judgemental about Brooke Shields and depression. I admit there's something more than a little creepy about his relationship with Katie Holmes.
But when he's playing a part in front of a camera, I am completely charmed by Tom Cruise.
These are the thoughts and observations of me — a woman of a certain age. (Oh, my, God, I'm 65!) I'm single. I'm successful enough (independent, self supporting). I live just outside Chicago, the best city in the world. I'm an aunt and a friend. I feel that voices like mine are rather underrepresented online or in print. So here I am. If my musings resonate with you, please visit my blog again sometime.
I so know what you mean. In reality, he freaks me out, I try to stay away from the screen when he is on, cause I'm just drawn in.....
ReplyDeleteI love this movie. I love him IN this movie. Back in the day (circa "Risky Business") I loved him. Now? Like you, he creeps me out. However, I can push all that away when I watch this movie. Definitely one of my favorites.
ReplyDelete(And that kid? Precious.)
I love how he plays humble in this movie--from the Show Me The Money scene to when he shows up to the women's group.
ReplyDeleteMuch like Mel Gibson, Tom seems a total wack job in the real world. But, also like Mel, I think he is a terrific actor and have a hard time finding a film of his that I haven't really enjoyed.
