Gov. Sanford admits to extramarital affair
Relationship revealed after S.C. governor's mysterious trip to Argentina.
By the way, he voted "yes" to banning gay marriage and "no" to civil unions because that wedded bliss between a man and a woman is sacred and all.
These are the thoughts and observations of me — a woman of a certain age. (Oh, my, God, I'm 65!) I'm single. I'm successful enough (independent, self supporting). I live just outside Chicago, the best city in the world. I'm an aunt and a friend. I feel that voices like mine are rather underrepresented online or in print. So here I am. If my musings resonate with you, please visit my blog again sometime.
Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI am watching this on YouTube now. Here's my question: WHY must he air these details to the national press? WHYY??? WHYY???
He doesn't need to say all the things I hear him saying that will hurt his children so much in the long run. If he has to say it because he's the Republican poster boy for "family values" then just say it and be done with it but the details are too much.
Oh, so that's where he went. On Father's Day.
ReplyDeleteHere's what bothers me about all this: as a governor he is responsible for what goes on in his state. You cannot just up and disappear for five days, telling no one and leaving your staff looking like idiots. Your responsibility is to your job. If he should resign, it needs to be for that.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I'm with Mimi about the sordid details. Who among us has NOT written sappy love letters to someone? Would any of us want them put out there for everyone to laugh at? That part makes me feel very, very dirty. I am writing Keith Olbermann to say that I really didn't think all the snickering he did on his show last night was appropriate.
Ick. Just ick. He's a liar and a hypocrite. That's all that needs to be said. IMO.
Well, Ladies, here's why I'm still stifling a giggle. For, while I admit the human wreckage was difficult to watch, NO ONE DIED WHEN BILL CLINTON LIED. While in Congress, Sanford appointed himself one of the moral police during impeachment and didn't flinch, didn't express concern about Chelsea Clinton, when sordid details about a certain famous Gap dress were revealed. He also didn't seem to mind a "mistruth" or two as Bush #43 led us into war over nonexistent WMDs. Then of course there's his espoused opinion that even civil unions are a threat to the sanctity of marriage. And, as I didn't realize until Boliyou pointed it out, he had his little adventure over Father's Day.
ReplyDeleteSo he's a little more than a hypocrite. He's a hypocrite whose votes had an impact on public policy. Live by the sword, die by the sword. I think it's time for all these "culture warriors" to give it up and concentrate on what matters.
(Yes, I hold Bill Clinton primary in responsibility for hurting his family. But people like Sanford sensed blood in the water and went for it during the Lewinsky scandal.)
And this man, who shot from the hip without much forethought on live TV, was a serious, albeit early, contender for President. We should know how impulsive he is sooner rather than later.
Also, let's not forget that I'm neither as nice nor as mature an old gal as I could be.
