Last night a friend and I went to see Kit Kitteridge, An American Girl and we had a terrific time. We were, I believe, the only adults in the theater unescorted by little girls, but that's because both my niece and her daughter have, sadly, outgrown the American Girl phase.Abigail Breslin won my heart in Little Miss Sunshine, and Kit was my niece's favorite American Girl (with Molly a close second), so I was familiar with the basic outline of the story and presold. But for those of you with a kid in your life (probably beneath the age of 12), let me set your mind at ease. It is NOT a commercial for the dolls. In fact, no mention of the dolls is made.
As always with the American Girl series, though, it's historically accurate, entertaining, and best of all, inclusive. Your kids will learn important lessons without even realizing that they're being taught. And the cast -- including Ms. Breslin, Stanley Tucci, Glenne Hedley, Joan Cusack and Jane Krakowski -- is entertaining for adults, too.
P.S. Animal lovers, there's no need to worry. The tough lessons about life during an economic downturn do NOT include harm to Grace the dog, nor Curtis the monkey.
Sounds like the ultimate chick flick to me. My Nieces had the dolls also. Cute, but what a racket that was.

My friend wants to go see it....yeah, we'll probably be the only adults at the theater too...but who cares!
