It was 50º+ this morning when I left for work, with the mercury predicted to pass 60º by noon. So I wore my denim jacket over my lightweight cardigan/t-shirt duo and was quite comfortable.
Yet on my way to the train, I saw people wearing heavy jackets and gloves. Gloves, for pity's sake!
Goodness knows it gets cold here in Chicagoland. And once the temperature drops, it tends to stay low for months. So why are people so eager to get into their winter gear? Are they dressing for the calendar rather than the temperature?
Or are they just happy to wear their fall/winter clothes again. I know that when we see the 40ºs later this week, I will enthusiastically pull l out one of my new cashmere sweaters.
It's been warm here in NJ too. The other day I came out of the shower in jeans and a tank top-with the intention of putting a zip up sweatshirt over it. My mom proceeded to lecture me about wearing a tank top in the middle of October and how it wasn't THAT warm.
ReplyDeleteA few hours later I went into work, and I swear, nearly every girl/woman I saw was dressed for the beach.
New cashmere sweaters?? Do tell!!
ReplyDeleteIt's been very very dreary, rainy and cold here in Northern Maine. Blah... and we're having heater issues at school so it's cold there, too. I'm in layers all ready. It's too early. I"m not ready for it.
I've noticed folks can be a bit odd here in the pacific northwest. Some will continue to wear cargo shorts in the winter, with socks & sandals and heavy parkas.
ReplyDeleteBut I have also noticed that some of the weirdness may be wearing off on me. For example, I have the patio door open right now. It's raining and the temp is in the low 50s. And I have the space heater going.
