Tell us your biggest musical regret.
Not treating my vinyl with more respect and tender loving care. I have cartons of old LPs and 45s in my closet, but they are virtually unplayable. Yet I can't part with them. I know that, as delivery systems for sound, downloads are superior. But records! You could fall in love with a record! Cover art, liner notes ... stacking LPs on the spindle ... I miss 'em.

You've made me all nostalgic. I've still got lots of vinyl records with no way to play them if they're still playable (and the same will no doubt soon be true of my many videotapes). I mainly miss the big cover art, and things like gatefold covers, plus the occasional gimmicks like picture discs and coloured vinyl and weird shaped discs. Also, I used to know the track order and listen to each new album over and over again, whereas these days I listen to it once at most and then all the music just goes on my iPod to become a part of one giant shuffle collection.
ReplyDeleteI miss the album art as well, as Eerie said. I STILL do not own an IPOD. So, that's my new regret...
ReplyDeleteSorry to get Clintonian on you, but I feel your pain. I don't blame you for hanging on to your vinyl; maybe there will be an invention that will allow you to play it again someday.
ReplyDeleteI would spend so much time looking at the cover art and reading the liner notes. CDs just aren't as satisfying with their little fold ups. bah!
