The intensity of his performance was amazing.
Kisses!Lêhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02419693749682458647noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27448101.post-48656414001086610242014-02-06T13:43:54.987-06:002014-02-06T13:43:54.987-06:00This is a terrific article and it's hard to be...This is a terrific article and it's hard to believe that he never won an Oscar. He played so many different roles and he's held up as an icon. Also, your insight on the relationship of Burton/Taylor relationship was both tragic and beautiful. Perfectly summing up there tumultuous romance. This is exactly how I feel about Taylor and Burton, totally true love match:

"I wish they had been able to admit they were alcoholics in 1963 instead of 1975 for Richard and 1983 for Elizabeth, who was also battling addiction to prescription medication. Perhaps, with counseling but without booze, they could have lived happily ever after together."

Also I have to agree that Beautiful Ruins is a fabulous read. He and Elizabeth, together or apart are always fascinating. It honestly never occurred to me that with such the overpowering presence and Shakespearean experience he'd ever be bothered by no Oscar wins. Ultimately though this is a reminder that acting IS a profession where that kind of "love" is especially needed, particularly if one happens to be married to Taylor.

Great addition to the blogathon.

AuroraCitizen Screenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11596338896095275116noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27448101.post-68878749210125430402014-02-03T16:33:28.644-06:002014-02-03T16:33:28.644-06:00What a STRONG presence he had on the screen. Like the quiet before the storm. No wonder he and Liz had such a passionate relationship. He definitely deserved more recognition than he received. It's tough to imagine that he never got an Oscar. While Burton isn't a "lead"--and Liz is only mentioned and never appears--he is a key player in the plot and steals the scenes he's in. It's partially set in Italy during the time "Cleopatra" was filming in Rome. Made me wish I'd met Burton, though he's a bit of a scamp in the book.Cat.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16596358921357615801noreply@blogger.com
